Print this out and read it with a scarecrow and some hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick in it. Please do not reply to this newsletter. Write me at info@themuseisin.com . If you get two of these.. you could read them both, but they're the same and sorry about that. My computer has double vision vision. Thanks and happy October.
Hi Creative Ones,
So keeping with our 12 month series starting with the Dog Days of August, proceeding to the Bird-days of September, may I introduce you to the Chameleon Days of October.(if you didn't get August or September issues, let me know and I'll send you a copy, but only if you want).
I was going to do the obvious, Cat Days of October, specially since I am a lover of feline muses, but Jeanne Hillson reminded me that looking at the same thing everyone else looks at and thinking something different is much more creative and hey.. that's what this Muse Letter is supposed to be all about. ack!
However, I propose that we think differently about chameleons:"a creature that can change its outward appearance at will in order to blend into its surroundings and thus become more difficult to detect." Why do we want to blend into our backgrounds? We want to be creatively audacious and light the way for others to come out of their backgrounds. So let's be rebellious chameleons this month It's Halloween so let your secret selves emerge all month long .. with new personas and outfits. I bought myself a clip-on pony tail because I've always wanted long hair.. but when my naturally curly hair gets long it also gets Bozo-like and clowns scare me.
Some referrals for you:
Remember Marney from the last issue (if you did not get it let me know and I'll send it). She is up to miracles again. You MUST get her 68-page PDF magazine that contains articles, how-to art projects, interviews, and dazzling collaborations of writing and art, all subtly revolving around the theme of spontaneous, innovative, wise, child-like energy. Gosh...I just looked at it and there's an interview with me in one of my rather silly moods. (i knew that)

Treat yourself to the magic, marvel, and muse-ivation of e-Artella issue #e-8. Simply flipping through it will spice your mind with irresistable inspiration. This e-zine is a triumph in the world of zines and I wish there were academy awards for this type of thing so Marney and crew could get the recognition they deserve....Spread the word.
ALSO.. I mentioned Marney's Artemis in the interview with her from last issue. Here's the whole scoop on a free pdf: http://artellawordsandart.com/support-files/artemis.pdf
For my F0th birthday this year, I'm going to ARTFEST. I just discovered Teesha Moore through my good friend Bonnie and I'm soo excited about going and being a student for a change. This is my definition of bliss. I'd love to see you there too.

Laurie Hawley is a graduate of the Muse Group Facilitation training and is studying creativity coaching. If you are in the Colorado area or interested in her wonderful combination of Muse philosophies with a kind and compassion influence you can email her at LMHAWLEY27@MSN.COM
Muse Groups in Denver start October 10th.. email her for more info and questions.
A 12 week Muse Group is also starting January 11, 2006 through March 29, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., $250, plus $50 materials fee (total: $300)
I asked Laurie ..
Hey, who are you?
That's a difficult question. There are so many facets, some harmonious, some conflicted. I am left brain analytical; yet I have right brain passion for the arts - writing, painting, photography, music, theatre, dance.... My intention is to be compassionate and present. I am an infinitesimally small speck in the universe, but I hope to make a difference.
What are some things about your background?
I was born in Denver, Colorado. That is why I love the mountains. It also is why I love the ocean. I grew up in a household of pets - animals are a great passion. Given the choice, I would have gone to school forever. Fortunately, we are always students in life. I attended graduate school in English Literature, Psychology, and Law and was a practicing attorney for approximately 17 years. In addition to being a Muse Group Facilitator and an aspiring Creativity Coach, I am a part-time fundraiser for a small nonprofit whose mission is to further the translation, study, and preservation of the Buddhist literature and philosophical heritage of Tibet.
Where are you?
Relative reality: Denver, CO
Absolute reality: On the path to my creative dreams
What led you to the Muses?
I have always yearned to be creative. Like all of us, I was very creative as a child. I loved to write, to draw, to make flour & water maps. I loved theatre and continually lived in a world of make believe. Over the years, I grew more and more out of touch with my inner child and creativity. Wanting to get back in touch, I started reading numerous books on creativity and came across The Nine Modern Day Muses (and a Bodyguard). The Muses struck a chord with me, and I have been hooked ever since.
What's your vision for your practices?
My vision is to help people reconnect with their creativity and overcome any obstacles confronting them on their creative path. We all are creative - some folks just need reminding. One of my primary goals is to help others be present & aware and open to the opportunities offered to them by the universe.
What's something you believe in?
I believe that there is a gift in every circumstance, no matter how difficult or adverse it may appear.
Do you have a favorite muse?
I love all of the Muses, so it's hard to say I have a favorite. I guess that I am particularly fond of Aha-Phrodite, Albert and Muse Song, and if I do have a favorite, it would have to be Bea Silly. There is something so remarkable and miraculous about children and our inner child. Being a queen bee of procrastination and perfectionism, however, both Marge and Spills have lessons that resonate with me deeply.
What do you have to offer people?
Compassion and an open mind. I also love to teach and to help people realize their fullest potential.
What is a favorite quote?
"I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." Helen Keller
"Do not call yourself an artist. Say that you are a painter, a dancer, a writer.... When you say that you are an artist, you are implying that there are those who are not." From my notes in Shambhala Art Class
"Your whole life can be defined by a brush stroke." Trungpa Rinpoche
"The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear." Zen Wisdom
Here are excerpts from Laurie Hawley's Children's Book
Zydeco Mo © 2004
It lets us keep in our hearts the plight of the people in Lousiana and Mississippi.
"Mo Arceneau is a zydeco cat.
He is a Black Creole from old Ville Platte.
He is not a goat, a zydeco hog,
A sugar bee, or a shaggy dog.
Reared in southwestern Louisiana,
Mo loves the land of Acadiana.
There are so many trees, so many plants,
So many spiders, mosquitoes, and ants."
"Cajun or zydeco songs filled the air.
They danced all night without worry or care.
Each "fais do do" or zydeco party
Lifted their spirits and made them hearty."
"On this grand earth, there is not better treat
Than zydeco music's foot-stomping beat."
